Schools in the Greater Sydney Conference were recently recognised as achieving substantially above-average gains in literacy and numeracy according to the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). Gains are measured against the national average, against schools with similar students and against students with similar starting scores. Gains show the growth in students who have taken consecutive NAPLAN test at the same school.

There is growing evidence that indicates that screen time (i.e. watching television, using an iPad or a smart phone etc.), is linked to obesity, low academic performance, and mental health issues in children (Jago et.al., 2016). For parents, being mindful of the amount of screen-time your child has each day and setting boundaries around its use can have a significant impact on the amount of screen time your child engages in (Bounova, Michalopoulou, Agelousis, Kourtessis, & Gourgoulis, 2018).

Sydney Adventist School Auburn celebrated 100 Years in Adventist education on the 22nd of July this year. Over 400 people attended the celebratory event and the school’s campus buzzed with people throughout Sabbath day and evening events.
